Cash Back Sites and Apps 101

Updated: Apr 13, 2019

Cash back sites give you cash back when you buy things online.  The cash back at a store can vary based on the day and the site that you use. I try to look at all of them before making a purchase to get the initial sign up bonus and then you can choose what works best for each purchase. These sites will often offer extra discounts or incentives from time to time, so be on the lookout for those! Here are some that I have tried and like:

Ebates: (Use this link for a free $10 when you buy you spend your first $25) This was my first introduction to cash back sites and I still really like it! You get a free $10 for joining and then you can shop through stores listed on their site and receive a certain percentage back on your purchase. Ebates gives their cash back through check or Paypal transfer quarterly. Currently they list stores with discounts from 1%-45%. They also regularly have specials where they double or triple the cash back from different stores.

Top Cashback: (Use my link to sign up!) This site is a lot like Ebates. It also offers cash back on many stores. It does not have a great sign up bonus- it seems kind of off and on. However, there's a reason it's called Top Cashback- they consistently offer higher cash back than other sites. They also have periodic bonuses. For example, there was a recent bonus that if you make a purchase of $10 or more you could get a $3 bonus into your account.

Mr. Rebate: (Use my link to get $5 off back on your first order) This is another online shopping site, much like Ebates and Top Cash Back.  I cross check these sites to see which has the best rate.

Shop Smarter: I just found this site and I'm not for sure if I will keep it. However, if it seems to be a good deal, I'll update this section. (UPDATE! This site is awesome for the purchase of Disney Gift Cards! Check out this post dedicated just to Shop Smarter!) This site gives a consistent 10% back on many stores including Walmart, Target, Best Buy and Shop Disney. So, that is great! The only drawback is that it is a subscription, so the cost is $9.97 per month. I don't know if I will do enough shopping online to make this one worthwhile, but I got a free $10 for signing up, and have some more shopping to do coming up, so I will definitely try it out for a while. I've also found that the pay out is capped at $1,000 per year so if you reached that amount, it would no longer be helpful.

Swagbucks: (Use my link for a free $3 to start) This site is full of money making opportunities. You can use it for shopping online like the other sites above, but this site also has things like surveys that you can get paid to complete, special offers, many of which are money makers, videos you can watch, a place to upload your grocery receipts, and lots of other opportunities. I use this site a lot. I figure if I'm just sitting around watching tv, I might as well make a few dollars doing surveys while I do it! I have found a good rhythm with Swagbucks and make $50 or more per month currently. While that's not huge, it adds up over time!

Ibotta: (Use my link for a $20 welcome bonus!) This site gives coupons for things you buy in store and also has some cash back opportunities for online shopping. I always try to check this app out before I go grocery shopping because it there are often good coupons. They also offer bonuses all the time for completing a certain number of offers, buying something online, etc. This is a great site to use to stack offers like manufacturers or store coupons and sales.

Dosh: (Use my link for a free $5 when you link a credit or debit card) This site gives you cash back at certain stores in person or when shopping online. The cool thing is, once your card is linked, you are automatically given cash back when you shop in a participating store. Just make sure to use a credit card or run your debit card as credit to get your cash back. Sam's Club will sometimes run specials on Dosh to give users up to 8% cash back on purchases, including Disney gift cards!

Others I've used with mixed success:

Receipt Hog: An app that gives you rewards when you upload a picture of a receipt. I like that it's easy, I don't like that it takes FOREVER to cash out because it the rewards are tiny.

Coin Out: Similar to Receipt Hog. I like that it tells you in cash how much you have to cash out (it's not points or something like that) and that there are occasional stores or items that can earn you bonuses. I don't like that it also adds up very slowly.

Dabbl: This is a fun site that gives you small cash back rewards to review advertisements of products. It's easy and quick. However, it can take months to get to $5 so you can cash out. They have Disney gift cards that you can get as your reward, which is cool!

Perksy: This is similar to Dabbl. They offer short surveys. It is another one that takes a while to earn enough to cash out.

Coupon Cabin: I'm new to this one. They have limited numbers of REALLY good offers, but the limited numbers and the fact that you can only use one of these REALLY good deals per month is a negative for me.

Fetch Rewards: (use referral code CP8NF for a free 3,000 points when you upload your first receipt) This one is similar to iBotta with a lot less options. But, they have some good bonuses if you are looking to buy the brands that they promote.
